Business analytics is the application of data science, data mining, statistics, business intelligence, and machine learning as a method of gaining business insight. Business analytics focuses on using descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive methods for enhancing strategic and operational decision-making. The course presents an in-depth examination of the types of problems and opportunities that business analytics presents, along with how it relates to strategy and strategic decision-making. Students will analyze and evaluate the tools, methodologies, and systems used in implementing business analytics, and make recommendations for improving data and analytics practices within the context of business. The course also includes hands-on work with an open-source data mining toolkit called Orange Data Mining.
